Vaping cost calculator

Put in what you actually spend. See it per week, per month and per year. The numbers you type stay in your browser.

What you spend now

£20.00a week
£86.67a month
£1,040.00a year

A month is a twelfth of a year, so it is a little more than four weeks.

The UK duty on the liquid you use

From 1 October 2026 the UK charges Vaping Products Duty of £2.20 on every 10ml of vaping liquid, with or without nicotine. Hardware is not covered.

A standard bottle is 10ml. A prefilled pod is usually 2ml.

£2.20duty on that liquid, a week
£114.40duty on that liquid, a year

That is the duty itself, and it is the only certain figure. It is charged to the business that makes or imports the liquid. How much of it reaches the shelf price is each shop's decision. If a shop passed all of it on, VAT would apply on top: £2.64 a week, £137.28 a year. That line is an assumption, not a forecast. Check your own receipts after October.

The bigger number

The duty is the part in the news. The first figure on this page is the larger one, and it was there before any tax: what you already spend. Cutting down shrinks it a little every week. Stopping ends it.

OneLess estimates what you keep as you cut down or stop, from your own weekly spend. During a taper it counts only the days you confirm you logged in full, so the figure stays honest. It is free on the App Store, with an optional Premium part for a weekly review and one next step.

Sources and limits

The duty rate and start date are from HM Revenue and Customs: Vaping Products Duty and the Vaping Duty Stamps Scheme. Everything else on this page is arithmetic on the numbers you enter. It is general information, not financial or medical advice. For free help to stop, see the NHS guidance on quitting vaping.
